Leadership topic - Matchbox Twenty

Matchbox Twenty formed in Orlando, Florida in 1995, growing out of an earlier band, Tabitha’s Secret, around Rob Thomas, Brian Yale and Paul Doucette. Kyle Cook and Adam Gaynor joined to complete the lineup. Their debut, Yourself or Someone Like You, came out October 1, 1996, and carried the band through the rest of the decade.

The lineup itself has moved more than once. Gaynor left in the mid-2000s and Doucette shifted from drums to rhythm guitar to cover the gap. Kyle Cook left in 2016 and returned in 2017. Rob Thomas has fronted every version of the band since 1995.

Matchbox Twenty is on leadingWithMusic for Succession: a band that kept its sound and its name through a changed lineup, because the people staying knew who was ready to take on the part that opened up.
