Leadership topic - Succession

Succession is what a leader builds before the seat opens, not after. It is naming who is ready, saying so out loud, and handing over enough of the real work that the handover is not a surprise to anyone in the room, including the person receiving it.

Matchbox Twenty lost a founding member in the middle of a career and kept going, because the reassignment of his part had already been worked out inside the band. That is Succession as a practice, not a plan on a shelf: a move made in the room, before the vacancy, so the music does not stop while someone learns the part.
